I have nearly finished my new build and i was wondering whether to get 8gb of ram or move up to 16 gb. will 16 gb of ram be beneficial for new games coming out or is 8gb of ram enough ?

Solution
8gb of ram is enough for gaming.
Games, by themselves can only use 2-3gb.

If budget is not a big issue, though, I recommend 16gb.

1. 16gb will let windows hold more other code in ram, available for instant reuse.
2. A future addition of 8gb will not be supported by ram vendors. They only support ram that is from one matched kit.

8gb is the standard for games and it should be more than enough ,,however if you want a more future proof machine you would get the 16gb of ram..trust you wont need it because programs that want that much ram wont be happening for now

no ddr4 and ddr3 have different notches so if you want to use a ddr4 you are going to have to upgrade motherboard and cpuy depending on the board you choose anyway.. just get a decent set of 1600mhz 8gb gskill ripjaws and you should be fine.. 16gb is not really necessary

It won't support DDR4 so if you buy 16 gigs now (or 8); it won't fit so do you buy 16 for longevity? or 8, all the while knowing that DDR4 is in use now and on the way to desktops.

DDR4 is currently a useless money drain, especially for gamers and you will need to upgrade to a DDR4 capable motherboard which also means you will need to upgrade your cpu to a socket 2011-3. Don't even consider DDR4 as an upgrade. Gamers looking to build a new computer shouldn't even consider it. In it's current state, it offers absolutely no increased perofmance for gamers and very little if none for others. The price tag is extremely high. DDR3 will be around a while yet.

8GB will be enough for gaming if you're on a budget. If you can spare a little extra you could go for 16GB as you will have to purchase a new kit of 16GB later on if you want to upgrade.
