Will there be any draw back such as the speed of the power is being drawn from the PSU to the motherboard.

Also should I power my hard drive directly from psu or motherboard?

My motherboard can only be powered by an 8 pins power cable but my psu on have a 16 pins power cable so i bought this adapter:

Generally, adapters like this are a bad idea.
As you've not given us any real details, it is impossible to say.
And a description on fleabay is less than useful.
