1600x900 resolution squished with black bars

Hi all. For some reason, whenever I choose the 1600x900 res in games or for my desktop, the screen is squished and there are black bars on top and bottom.

This is bugging me out cuz it seems to be the only resolution this happens on and it's the res I want since I don't always want to play at 1920x1080 (native).
I've updated/reverted drivers, checked monitor settings, and don't know what else to do...

I think it may be a problem with scaling from what I've read online but the AMD Engine Control Center for 11.9 doesn't seem to have an option for that. Help? 🙁

The issue is with your display/monitor settings. There are two different ways it can display, either centered with bars, so everything is crisp and clean, or stretching it to fit the screen. Check your monitor settings, or look for a setting under the display options for stretching to fit and uncheck it.

EDIT: The exact wording is unknown to me at this time. I forget exact what they called it with the CCC, but with Nvidia, it's under "Adjust desktop size and position" on the Scaling tab, and you choose either a scaling mode: Aspect ratio, Fullscreen or no scaling. Due to the quality loss of scaling, I usually would choose no scaling.

AMD has something similar, but only if your monitor offers it as an option, which usually means you can't have a generic monitor profile, but one for your monitor.

You mean the highest? Max reported is 1920x1200 but 1920x1080 (native) is the highest available to actually choose from.

Thank you for replying. You are right about there being two display options. For stretching, when on 1600x900 though it only stretches horizontally, not vertically. For other resolutions like 16:10 ones, it stretches out evenly but I've found out for 16:9 ones, it doesn't do it well showing black bars on top and bottom. Wouldn't it work though with the native res being 16:9 after all?

I can't seem to find the option for me as I've checked just about every option...

look at gpu scaling under flat screen property in catalyst also see under theater you could resize to full screen with multiple monitor

Thanks for the help. It looks like I need a DVI cable to take advantage of scaling so I'll see how it goes after I buy one.
