160GB HDD = OS and 500GB HDD= MediaFiles Is it worth it?

I kinda thought of doing this to extend the life of my 500gb hdd. Making my old 160gb hdd for the OS and 500gb for the other files. Does that mean my 500gb hdd will go on standby? i think that surely go to sleep or something, meaning it will rotate less and can it extend the of my hdd? Is it worth it? tnx in advance

yeah it will run less, but if you start it up and stop it a lot it can wear it out somewhat.you will also see a performance improvement with that setup as the stress is being shared.

Im guessing your older HDD will also be slower than your new one. I wouldn't do it, especially when 500GB HDDs are dirt cheap as of now.

My 160gb Hdd would be a waste.. also cant afford any upgrades at the time cuz im a student xD

To be honest as mentioned above I wouldn't really bother. If you were going to out your is on a different drive I would put it on an ssd, a 120 gb one is Britain is about £40, but with one my pc starts up in a few seconds
