When plugged in the LCD Control panel display lights up, the black square runs 3/4 of the way across and stops. After pressing the "On" button nothing happens -- no green light. No buttons work. Tried reset and service menu taps -- no joy. HP says maybe hardware problem needing service. Probably right, but think it would be a better fish habitat. Any ideas before I give it the boot?

You could take it apart and make sure the switches didn't come disconnected. But I would just return it if it's still under warranty.

The manual should have a troubleshooting guide for your specific printer.
