802.11ac stuff is just starting to really come on to the market since the final versions of the standard was to be put out last month. Because there are really only a couple of chipset manufactures the name on the outside does not mean a real lot.
Almost all USB 802.11ac adapters seem to have realtek RTL8812AU chips in them. So this is similar to asking if a HP with a given intel processor is better than a Dell with the same exact processor. Because this is very new stuff there could be some differences but in the long run I suspect there will be very little difference between devices that use the same chipsets.
Key to remember is 802.11ac ONLY runs on 5g and 5g has much less range and ability to penetrate walls when used in...
If you are thinking of using Linux in any form, make sure the drivers are available.
I use Puppy for any emails I am doubtful about (Among other things), and I found the TP Link I bought for the laptop did not have a suitable driver.

I use windows 7 mainly but I would like it to be compatible with windows 8 incase I want to upgrade. I don't care about linux though
