Hello, I have a 1660 Super.

The card Idles at 50c , in games I played ultra "Everything maxed"to test the gpu it was hitting 85c.

Are these cards designed for this, or is my card or system at fault here?

GPU I Have:
- ASUS PH-GTX1660S-O6G

Solution
No clue, It's a prebuilt I bought 2 years ago. but I can install 2 fans at the top and one at the back. Should I do this?
Does the prebuilt chassis have an open mesh front panel, or is it one of the more closed off designs?
If it's the latter, then I suggest trying the 2 fans as top and rear exhaust.

Also how should I set my fan curve?
You can set it however you want it, or whatever you're comfortable with.
Below is a pick of the old fan curve on my 1080Ti - nowadays, I just run it 100%. I don't hear it while gaming anyways. This model has a fan off mode when not in use too.

That is a tad toasty - the load thermals, I mean.

VGA bios for that gpu is in that link.
Thermal Limits
Rated: 83.0C - this is where thermal throttling occurs
Max: 89.0C - this is where the gpu will shut off on you if it can't get those temps down.

I suspect poor chassis airflow, insufficient gpu cooler design, or both.
Also, if you have applied any overclocks, please remove them, as there is no thermal headroom to make use of one; it'd only make things worse.

No, I haven't done anything yet.

It's all default, I wanted to test the default setting of the graphics card as I only bought it yesterday and installed today.

Fan goes to 68% when at 85C, Also fan defaults to 600rpm "30%" when not in use so the temp is usally 50C

As for chassis airflow my system only has 2 front fans. 🙁

Use gpu tuning software such as Msi Afterburner, EVGA Precision X, or Asus Gpu Tweak, and set your own fan curve. Default curves just plain suck.

Idle temps are fine, that's not hurting anything.

What is the make and model of this chassis? The fans in the front may not be the best setup for the current situation.

Yeah my case has a mesh front cover that is removable and a top mesh cover that is removable. The front has room for 2 fans "which I have" the ones that came with the pc and the top has 2 spaces for fans.

Is it perfectly safe to run the gpu at 100% fan when gaming? I have no problems with sound as I have a fan inside my room that makes noise because it's hot inside.

Since it does have open mesh, leave one fan in the front, aimed at the gpu, and mount the other at the rear.

It's ok. That's what they're designed around anyway. If you're not comfortable doing that, you don't have to.
