1666 rams on 2600k.

this may seem stupid question.
i have z68x-ud4 motherboard with 2600k processor. now the 2600k processor only suppports ram upto1333. so if i put in 8gb-1600 ram will it not recognise it at all or will it just recognise it as 1333?

Maybe you will have luck and at first time will be recognized at 1600Mhz. If not go in BIOS and set the frequency to 1600 without raising the voltage if your memory use 1.5V.

On ALL Sandy Bridge LGA 1155 CPU's Default to DDR3-1333, never DDR3-1600. You'll need to go into the BIOS and set either the Memory Multiplier -> 16, CAS Timings per Rated (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS), Command Rate -> 2, and if the DRAM Voltage per Rated is anything but 1.50v set that as well. Otherwise use XMP and Profile1 for (1) kit only. On Gigabyte in particular I recommend setting the RAM manually over using XMP; less issues.
