16BG RAM installed but only 7.98 usable.

I just got a new 8gb stick of Crucial Ballistix to go with the one I already have. Windows 10 says that I have 16GB of RAM installed, but only 7.98GB is usable. It also says that the new stick of 8GB is "reserved". How do I make my new stick usable?

My MOBO is an ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3

Try placing the new 8gb stick of ram in another ram slot then turn your computer back on

I'm using windows 10. and the RAM sticks are seated properly. I heard the click and everything when i put them in.

No guarantees when mixing DRAM. Try the new stick by itself and see if it works, if so raise the DRAM voltage + 0.05, save, exit, shutdown and add the old stick and try. If no joy give us the CPU and model #s of the DRAM

How many ram slots are on the board? Any chance its a board that they be in off setting slots....like 2 & 4 or 1 & 3?
