16CL with 15CL RAM compatibility

Hello, need help with this. I currently have the following MOBO and RAM

MOBO: Gigabyte B250M - D3H
RAM : G.SKILL AEGIS 2X4gb DDR4 2400MHz (CL15)

Is it okay to add in CORSAIR VS 8GB DDR4 2400MHz (C16) ram?

Getting this 1 piece from a friend on a cheap price and may plan to add in another 1x8gb of the same model if it works. Please advice, thanks in advance!

It may work, it may not. If it does, all the RAM would run at the slower timing of CL16 and the single stick would not run in dual-channel with the other two sticks. You would gain another 8GB of system RAM, but it would not be as fast as your 2x4G sticks in dual-channel.

From what you say, if it does work, my 2x4GB will continue running as dual channel but at CL16 is that right?

1. If they will work or not is really a matter of luck. Mix and match RAM sticks is always like this.
2. If they works all of your RAM sticks will run on CL16 (following the slowest one)
3. With 2x4 + 1x8, you will be running on a single channel mode and not on dual channel mode. For most cases, you might not notice the performance drop but there will be a performance drop compared to your old 2x4 in dual channel mode.
