Hi so I might wanna upgrade my motherboard and cpu because they are 8 years old. My ddr4 ram is also 8 years old. Should I upgrade this as well? Or should I buy a motherboard which has ddr4 and keep mine, or even add new ones in combo with the old ones?

All in all, is the upgrade worth it?

Whatever you decide its best to use ram tested and certified together as a set by the manufacturer. Many problems involving ram that we see here are caused by ram sticks with slight mismatches because they were not certified together as a set. New ones in combo with old ones might be problematic.

Ok thanks for the tip.
So its either reusing old ram or buying new ram.
I guess the question is, is it worth it? Ddr5 should be more futureproof right?

It depends on how long you're planning on using it. If it will be another 8 years before you update you equipment it may be irrelevant since we have no idea what future motherboards and memory will be like.

To be honest, I doubt that it'll live that long... I am someone who only upgrades every 8-10 years though. So maybe I don't really have a choice since I'll need to upgrade to ddr5.
