17" CRT cracking

I recently set up a system with a mitsubishi 17" flat screen CRT (cant remember the model) anyway,
whenever the computer is turned on, at the boot screens before windows, monitor makes that nasty electrical cracking noise, like it is turning itself on and off again (it cracks about 4 times). The rest of the time the computer and monitor in general work fine.

anybody experienced this problem before???

I've had this happen on a few monitors. One had a short in the cable. If the cable got knocked out of place it would go out and always made that awful noise. The other two monitors I have (some old 15" Daewoo and a 17" Sony Triniton I got for free) make the crackling noise when turned on. Both of these are pretty much on the fritz but still work for now. My other two monitors (Samsung 19" and ViewSonic 19") have never done this. Guess it just may be due to age or wear of the cable.
