This is posted due to the current pricing. Newegg has the 1700x for $179.99 and the 2600x for $229.99. Considering the $50.00 price difference, the plan to buy an aftermarket cooler for overclocking and gaming is not important, I am leaning towards the 1700x due to the extra cores. I do have a bunch of files to be converted from 264 to 265. Comments would be appreciated.

1700X = 2757s
2600X = 2797s

2600x is newer, probably the reason it costs more. Buy 1700X and spend the extra money on a good cooler and paste to keep it cool while encoding.

Edit: Average OC achieved is 3.8Ghz on all cores with 1.3v.

You could encode videos 10x faster with newer GPUs but with 1.5x the size.

50 bucks difference, I'd go with the newer processor that is more efficient (2600x). I'd also go for the 2700x. I'd also probably go for the 8700K then. Good time to be a tech fan though now that AMD is competing and in many respects beating Intel.

Enjoy.

$180 for the 1700X is a ridiculous deal. While the 2600X is definitely newer, you'd still be getting ridiculous performance with the 1700X no doubt. Do NOT invest too heavily in OC'ing ryzen, as they aren't well known for their overclocking capabilities. Go for a quality X370 board.
