18 inch 720p vs 24 inch 1080p?

I know that 1080p looks much better than 720p on a 24 inch monitor, but how does 1080p clarity on 24 inch monitor compare to 720p clarity on 18 inch monitor?
Screen size advantages should not be compared, only picture clarity in
1)Gaming(720p gets 2x - 4x TXAA or MSAA)
2)Movies, etc
