1800+ slow me down?

I'm getting a Radeon 9600 pro and I curently have an Athalon 1800+. Will that slow down my graphics significantly? I will be doing some real gaming but no Doom 3. Maybe a little half-life 2 though. If I OC it to a 2000+ or 2200+ will that give me the speed i need? And will i need to upgrade my pc2100 ram if i OC it that much?? I would really rather not upgrade my ram.

I can see you perhaps having a low FPS in HL2, you will need to play the game in 800*600 rez.

Overclocking is an option I'd look into.

I think the card and the cpu match-up OK. In other words, i don't think an 1800+ is a big bottleneck with a 9600pro.

For a while I ran with a 9600 pro and a Barton 2500+, the card was what was holding me back in games.

If you're worried about the cpu, yeah OC it a bit. Hopefully your mobo has an AGP/PCI lock so you can up the FSB. I would think any decent PC2100 could handle some OCing. You may have to up the vdimm (voltage to ram) or relax timings a bit.

Use Memtest86 to test the ram for stability (a free proggie, just google it).

Same as above for Prime95 to test the cpu for stability when OCing

That actually sounds like a pretty good match.
I ran a AMD 1900+ with an ATI 8500 card, and was satisfied with overall performance.
