1800x; or Go 1950x for same budget?

Purpose: Work(VM's, Lab Simulations, Multitasking), Gaming, Daily Use
Aesthetics: Definitely overkill in all regards currently,considering half the cost is purley looks(2k-$2400) maybe could lean things out. LOL

Im not sure if its possible to build an AMD "ThreadRipper" 1950x for under 5k considering the cpu itself is 1/5 of my budget but it was worth looking at. Maybe the lesser thread ripper model is an option as well.

Well it just depends if you need all of the PCIe lanes and 16 cores. If you are doing some heavy duty stuff, I would say go with Threadripper. But your downfall is the RAM. Why are you dropping $400 on it? Do you really need RGB? Also a $200 case? Not to mention $1200 for the monitor...it just seems that a lot of this stuff is overkill, and transitioned elsewhere.

Honestly get the 1920x, since most applications probably will not touch 16 cores, at least not for a couple of years.

This would leave me without monitor which I would really like the real estate of an Ultrawide(predator ect)

After that I can manage with my current deathadder mouse, deathstalker keyboard and pad from previous build.

i didnt explicitly say i wanted thread ripper this thread was created because for the ungodly amount of crap i had added to my 1800x, i wasnt sure if a 1950x was do able regardless.

So do you already have a 1800x? I think that's the main thing. You truly don't need much more. 8 cores should do you jsut fine. hitting 4.0ghz should but easy with the right cooler. I honestly think threadripper is for that very very niche market. And I don't see you being in that market. Unless you can "two 6 cores" for your VMs, I don't see a need for anything over 8 cores. VMs are meant for temporary use, not for pernanment use. For work, we use a 4-core Xeon because it works just fine.

the 1800X (unless you find it for a great deal) isn't really a good bang for your buck CPU anymore. The Ryzen 7 1700X is much more of a value. at the 1800X price, your better off going with the 8 Core Ryzen ThreadRipper 1900X.
