Hi I have a HyperX CL10 1866 4Gb x 2 stick of memory in my PC! I have another HyperX CL 10 1600 4Gb x 2 set. Is it possible to use the 1600 with it as well? This is my first post so please help!! I do not know how to overclock or under clock RAM.

My PC Specs are
AMD FX8320
8Gb HyperX
MSI 970A Krait Edition Mobo
XFX Radeon R7 360
Corsair CX 500W

Solution
Probably not.

I've never personally seen mixing modules result in damaging other hardware, but Tradesman might have, he's tested significantly more RAM than I have. I can certainly say it isn't common for mixed RAM to damage other components.

You can certainly try, though there is not guarantee that mixing RAM will work.

First thing to try would be adding them in together and seeing if you can POST. You might get lucky and the IMC will recognize the 1866 as needing to be downlocked to 1600 automatically.

As stated above, mixing ram is largely a gamble and can bring problems down the road. Not necessarily hardware-breaking problems, but diminished performance and increased crashes and instability with overclocks. Generally it is a good idea to buy a kit that has at least two sticks that is designed for dual channel so you can take advantage of the increased memory bandwidth. It's your choice, however I recommend using RAM that was all bought at the same time and is identical... It can't hurt anything considering you already have purchased both sets of DIMMs so there is no reason you shouldn't try.

But will failing hurt anything in the system?
