19" widescreen gaming with a Radeon X850XT?

On a 19" widescreen, FEAR at these settings [1440x900 res.]:
AA - 00x
AF - 16x
Texture Res. - Medium
Everything else at maximum (including number crunching options).

(CPU is X2 3800+ @stock and ram is DDR2 800)

[If you want AA, then change AA to 2x and the framerate question to 60-70FPS.... or AA to 4x and framerate to 20-40FPS.]

it'll do it just fine... there is an article with some benchmarks on firing squad about the x850. In toms VGA charts, the x850 is comparable (FPS wise) to an x1900gt

why not? resolution is inferior when comparing to 17" monitors.

1440x900= 1296000 pixels

1280x1024= 1310720 pixels

Now, go compare some benchmarks. If it´s ok with 1280x1024, 1440x900 will get a few more fps.

That's because F.E.A.R. automatically enables Shader Model 3.0 when it detects Shader Model 3.0 hardware.

Considering that my system doesnt run that game at that many FPS all the time with slightly higher settings and 1280x1024 res, I would assume a 400mhz slower processor, and slower video card would have a problem with it?

Anyways, I've done it... Yes, not at 90-120FPS, but along the lines of 80-100FPS.

I've overclocked my card to 580 core 620 mem (from 520/540), and can push it farther once I get *good* heatsinks for the ram itself. I will also overclock my processor *atleast* 400MHz when I get a better mobo (this is how far I've managed to push it without a volt increase.... stable)... This will also add some FPS to the seen as like I said, number crunching is on max right now.

Without the processor overclocked, I've managed to put on AA at 2x and get about ~40FPS, 27FPS on really really heavy scenes....

So, yeah, this is a VERY good card. It's the best 125$ I've ever spent.

I have a X800XTPE and for some reason as soon as I move the slider even 1mhz in ATI tool my whole screen gets corrupted (not just the spinning block) and i have to restart the computer! - any ideas anyone? I would like to push this card as hard as possible using the stock heatsink and fan!

From what I know XTPEs are simply XTs overclocked.... maybe your card can't handle any more overclocking?

Yes, the PEs are already pushed to the limits. stock my x850xt pe was at 540/580, I managed to squeeze 555/599 out of it with tighter VRAM timings as well (like a 40mhz RAM overclock) Optimizing you Mem timings will definatley help,. Check out this stick on xbitlabs about x8x0xt/pe mem timings.

cool, ta guys, still have the same problem with the core, but i managed to get an extra 25mhz outta the RAM, so its not a total loss!
