1920x1080 res not taking up whole monitor (tv)

i could have sworn when i first booted up, the native resolution was taking up the whole tv, but now its not quite taking up the whole tv and has black on all 4 sides

What is your monitor (TV)??

You will find that a lot of TV's are not the same resolution as 1920x1080 but a lower resolution.

All you have to do is set up a custom resolution threw you graphics card UI.

fixed. i had to download catalyst control center through ati website and then went to scaling options and moved slider over.

Did you ensure the resolution was set to 1920 x 1080 and did you also ensure that your TV is capable of 1080p and not just 1080i or 720p? You shouldn't have to adjust your scaling at all if the resolutions are fully supported.

yes, res is 1920x1080 and yes i'm in 1080p. 100% sure on both

If you are connected with a VGA cable your TV should have the option to automatically adjust, which should take care of that. If you're using HDMI then you need to use the overscan feature. Just google it.
