1920x1080 Stretches off my screen -- fixable?

Just built a pretty high-end desktop (Intel i7-4770, NVIDIA GeForce 970) and I keep my computer connected via HDMI to my 60 in. Samsung, running Windows 8.1. At 1920x1080 resolution, the screen cuts off about half the border icons and half the icons on the bottom. The next step down - 1768x992, brings the whole screen in but puts two pretty thin black lines on all four borders.

When I play Far Cry 4, I need to change the PC resolution to 1920x1080 to get a perfect full screen, but doing that with Shadow of Mordor gives me that same effect where icons are half off the borders.

Anything I can do about this, so I can have a full screen with no borders and play the games at an optimal 1920x1080? This is basically a gaming-only rig, so that's first priority. Thanks!

did you set your desktop resolution to your native resolution of your tv, im assuming its 1080p so set your desktop resolution to 1920x1080 and then go back into the control panal and it should not be greyed out.
