[SOLVED] 1920x1080 vs 1080p, 1920x1080 -- and 144hz HDMI

Hi everyone,

I have 2 questions:
1. Every comment I have ever read said that you can't get 144hz through HDMI however on my MSI Optix MAG271C, I just plugged an HDMI in and I get 144hz. Is that normal ? or is it some kind of trick that I shouldn't believe haha.

2- I get 144hz in 1920x1080 however when I change the display setting to 1080p, 1920x1080 the highest I can get is 60hz (these numbers are through HDMI cable btw). So what's up with these 2 resolutions and which one should I use to get the best picture & performance out of my monitor ? Thank you !

1. Implementation matters. Technically (with some caveats) HDMI 2.0 can support 144Hz 1080p.... It's just extremely rare for monitor manufacturers to implement HDMI2.0 on a panel when DisplayPort exists.

Your monitor does support 144Hz over HDMI:

Display Port: 1920 x 1080 (Up to 144Hz)
HDMI: 1920 x 1080 (Up to 144Hz)

2. 1920x1080 is 1080p. I'm not sure why 1920x1080 and 1080p would be options available to you.... it's a 144Hz 1920x1080 monitor, so use those settings.
