Good Afternoon,

I have a home connection of 1Gbps and I recently purchased a Netgear R8000 Nighthawk X6 router.

Now on the router provided by my ISP I can get 950Mbps down but only 30-60Mbps over the Wi-Fi. When trying the Nighthawk I can get a maximum of 450-480 on both Wired and Wireless. I am using Cat6 cables. Now I know that is probably the maximum I will get out of the wireless, but wired I should surely be able to get the same as the Tilgin router provided by the ISP.

After speaking to my ISP they have claimed that the Nighthawk might not be able to handle 1Gbps speeds, which I find highly unlikely as it is a top of the range router atm.

Please could someone confirm that I should be able to get the full speed from the Nighthawk on a wired connection. And any suggestions for achieving this?

Hmm. I'm not sure what standards are used on gigabit internet. Is there a modem involved? I'd be inclined to look at the diference in what is being negotiated on the wan port.

It almost sounds like something is runing at half duplex given that the speed is half, but gigabit over cat-5 cable, 1000BASE-TX only runs at full duplex so im wondering if the wan is using a different standard.
