1Gbps internet but only receiving 100 mbps

I am currently paying for 1gbps internet. However, on my PC, I am only receiving 100mbps. I'm not sure what is the problem here. I also got a new router for the 1gbps connection. Any help is appreciated
Here are my specs:
CPU: Intel core i5-3570k @ 4.2 Ghz
Mobo: ASUS P8Z77-V
GPU: MSI GTX 660 Ti 3GB
HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB
SSD: Intel 520 series 120GB
Router: ASUS RT-N66U

Actually Gbps means Gigabits Per Second
And here, MBPS means Megabytes Per Second

1 byte = 8 bits

1000 Megabits = 128 Megabytes
Cut off 10% as traffic loss.

It rounds off as 100 MBPS speed. That is very fine.
You are getting 1 Gbps speed but 1 Gbps is calculated in bits while the download speed is calculated in bytes. So you will get 1/10 of the written speed in every internet on earth.

By 100 mbps, I mean 100 megabits per second, not megabytes. I can do a speedtest and post it here if it is needed.

Then what are the download speeds? Check that on speedtest.net and keep the option as megabytes.
Record it and tell here.

Those are both in Mb/s.

Try a different server, or running multiple concurrently and add the results - it's possible that stupid server config could be limiting the max speed per node to 100mb/s.

Are you sure that you are connected to the router at a Gigabit rate?

Both are same? The result should have around 10x difference.

With 1 GBPS connection you should get 100 Megabytes Per Second speed in all cases cutting off the traffic wastage.
You should call your ISP if you are not getting that much.

That is fine mate.

As I said close to 100 MBPS is is normal.

Are you getting 10 MBPS speed in downloading anything? Try to download a large file and note the speed. It would tell you in MBPS.

I will try deleting a game from Steam and downloading it again.
EDIT: Browsing on the old posts, might the slow speed be caused by a faulty cable?

Nopes.

Ethernet cable does not cause any difference.
You need to log your download speed as I am still not sure about it by speedtest.net's test.

Actual speeds will vary, depending on many things, like how busy the server is you are linked to, the path of servers you are patched through to the place the file is, how many people are online locally near your hub using your ISP, time of day, etc. I am certain that if you read the fine print, it will have a disclaimer there that pretty much will say the same thing I just said. However, you should be able to get at least 60-80% of your ISP's claimed max speed most of the time. If you are not, then your ISP owes you an explanation, and maybe a refund, in my opinion.

That is exactly the point.
According to him speeds are 10 MBPS which is just 10% of promised speed.
That should not happen no matter how busy server is, its too frickin low.

I am only getting 2.1 MB/s download speeds on Steam, this just seems wrong. My friend is using the same ISP and he is paying for 500mbps, and he is getting the full 500.

If you go to Network Connections and hit status on your ethernet connection, does it say the speed is 1.0Gbps?

I've heard of ethernet cables with certain broken leads cause it to drop speeds.

Yup, new cable time. Or the rate might be limited to 100Mb/s in your router config; my Fritz!box was like that for some reason.

I'm going to google on how to set it up to 1gbps, I can't find it in the setup. If it's already doing 1gbps, then I gotta get a new cable. Thank you guys for the help

I'd guess that it's a cable issue - that is a strange router. Do you have any cables lying around - I know I could grab about a dozen.

I do have a few, I'll try those first. My guess is they probably won't work at 1gbps because the current cable i'm using was cut from that long cable a few years back, lol.
EDIT: I just took a look at the headers of the cables, they only have 4 small cables connected and there are lots of empty space. Guess I found the problem, haha.

Yup, GbE uses all 4 pairs, whereas earlier versions only used 2.

You may be using phone line.

These cables were given to me by my old ISP, when I signed up for the 100mbps contract. Guess they thought I wouldn't need cables with 8 pins.
