Hello! I know there are a couple of posts about 1ms vs 5ms but I wanted to post one myself. So I am going to be building my gaming pc soon and I want to purchase the monitors I've been on a mac since 2012 so I havent had the best of the best esp for gaming. Do you really notice the difference between 1ms and 5ms esp since I've been on a mac all this time. Mainly I want to get an ips monitor for the colors I would play games like LoL, cs:go, CoD etc. I've been stuck between 1ms and 5ms help!

Solution
I've see some tests which made it very clear the difference, but it's not one of those things where you are at 60hz and think it looks bad. However, everything has a bit more blur, which can disguise the lack of motion blur on games.

Example: http://www.testufo.com/#photo=toronto-map.png&pps=1920&test=photo

Run something like that on a 1ms monitor vs a 5ms monitor, and the clarity of text on the map is far easier to see. Use Lightboost or UMLB and it is much better. And like was mentioned, it is a bigger deal at 120hz.
The difference is not going to be noticeable unless you're used to a 120Hz panel. (You aren't.)

That being said, for the games you're playing, there is absolutely no reason to get an IPS panel. They look worse when the brightness is turned low (i.e. if you like to game at night), and even finding a 5ms IPS panel is going to be kinda pricey.

Most likely not, no. I was just saying that going from a 120Hz, 1ms panel to a 60Hz, 5ms panel would be noticeable, but that's a lot more factors than just the response time, too.

So what if the monitors are older. They're a very good size for the price. I highly doubt that Acer or ASUS make cruddy builds... it may be a cheap, low end monitor, but that LinusTechTips really gave it a stamp of approval despite minor cons. I've seen the Acer set up in a Triple monitor configuration and it works really well. More expensive Monitor with the same resolution doesn't make it better just because it costs more.

He was not talking about the monitors being old, but the fact that you brought up a 10 month old post. At the time of the posting, there was nothing that met the criteria.

This is why posting on old posts is frowned upon.

Actually, bystander, these monitors have been available for 2 years. And if you go on PCPARTPICKER you can see the pricing trend and they've both always been very low priced and so my post meets criteria and answers Darksable's statement.

Seriously, why does it matter when the thread is 10 months old, and the OP has already bought a monitor. It's still a 5ms screen.

I should be asking you that question. Why does it matter to you that I answer on a 10 month old topic? What part of your life matters so much that you have to outright blast me with irrelevant comments that you could have just avoided and went about your life. I answered his Comment with Facts. It has nothing to do with you. I looked at those AHVA screens, very crap screens... I don't see many good reviews on them... Linus Tech Tips on Youtube gave the stamp of approval for the ACER screen and even set it up in Triple Monitor configuration to show how the thin bevels work really well, and you just can't beat that price.

IPS is IPS regardless if you disagree. Just because it's cheap doesn't take that fact away. It is entirely possible to build Cheap technology with quality, just look at how successful China is, they own most of our nation's debt.

IPS has been fast enough for years. The only arguments I find is that a 120 Hz TN screen has less ghosting than a 60 Hz IPS. Or... a slowed down clip, or still frames to prove their point. Neither are realistic results for when someone is actually using it in real time. It's an old topic, but it's still important to get the information right. I agree with that.

The topic is brought up on my flagged posts anytime someone posts to it. It is an old thread, and it is against the forum rules to bring back old topics. It is particularly annoying when it is related to a specific purchase of someone who is not going to care.

And yeah. I'll just leave it be. Necro all you like. There are moderators that will ban you if you do it often.
