Hello All im new and this is my first post. I have been hanging around for some years now decided to post haha.

I need some help on looking over what I have selected for my build below. This will be my first time trying to build a computer.

I have owned 2 dell computers and they lasted about 6-8 years a piece. But now I want to be able to create my own so later on when it dies I can just replace a few parts instead of re-buying another computer for $1200

I don't game on the computer but I do create music and create websites and it will be a every day use. My house gets hot in the summer due to no ac (old house) so i need good fans or a case with good air flow

its kind of more than what i wanted to spend I want to be around 1200 but the price i have now is ok I dont really need a hard drive or Graphics Card as i have pny gforce gt 430 but a upgrade could be cool aslo have a 500 gig hard drive - Western Digital Caviar Blue but maybe wanted to try out a ssd

ps I also have 2 external hd's totaling 2tb
I run 2 monitors

im stuck at cases
also wandering if the psu is ok for the build as in the amount of watts
another thing is im not sure if i really need a cpu cooler as i am not overclocking im thinking it could still help keep the insides cool

Please let me know what you would change or add or keep

you pick older i7, you might want to pick the current king 3770k instead at similar price

i believe people will recommend 212 EVO not plus :) they are different


if you want to save more. the mobo is expensive, you can get asrock extreme4 for 120ish
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V PRO - amazon $208

and use HAF X instead, the cases are similar but haf x is cheaper

your PSU is very good investment, dont change it

just my 0.02 someone can correct me for a better setup

thanks guys. Im still going to get the 2600k due to ivy bridge emitting more heat im going to upgrade to the hyper 212 evo and go with the cooler master haf xm mid tower

the build is cheaper on my end now due to Santa clause bringing me about $400 in gift cards lol

Im def going to get the non oem windows so I can re use it later when or i ever get a new mobo

picked up Case: Cooler Master HAF XM - from micro center for $100

also getting Corsair HX 650 instead of 750 due to I will not be running 2 gpu's and or overclocking
I ditched the ssd as I feel I would kill it

Edit: I was looking at micro center and they are selling 2700k for $220 and 3770k for $230......Im not over clocking but I want temps to be cool inside the case whitch cpu should I get.

Not sure that cpu should miss anything, you better make sure by asking at microcenter, my guess there is no stock cooler, which is crappy anyway.
If you're nor clocking and crossfiring you're better off with 550w PSU at least 80 plus bronze and that will be enough.
Are you sure you need 209$ mobo? that just trumped up price for the features you won't notice and won't use. Smth like ascrock z77 extreme4 for ~120$ will work just fine and you can put saved money towards 660ti.

Thank you Im going to switch to asrock extreme 4 with i7 2700k. as it is available to buy at micro station ..asus z77 pro is out of stock same with extreme 6. my only gripe about asrock is the usb ports don't last long. Im looking to hold on for 6 or 7 years like the dell i have now.

Im going with 650 watts on the psu .

but still thinking of what brand. I keep reading reviews for sea sonic and Corsair HX 650 that they don't last long and or loud chirping noises from both units

total - $ 935 with tax $990...damn tax is about $45 coulda saved it if I ordered every thing from amazon

I went from going with asrock extreme4 to extreme6 25$ more for comfort due to the size of the extreme4 not fitting cases the way it should

also went with corsair tx650m over the hx650 and seasonic ss-650km due to lots of bad reviews with loud chirping and dieing psu's.....I'm still iffy on this psu I def wanted to buy a psu from a store so i didn't have to worry about shipping the psu off if its bad also picked up the $20 2 warranty offered by microcenter so I don't have to deal with manufacture

I normally don't get the warranty as its all a rip off. but for this it give me breathing room and less of a headache if anything is out of whack

let me what you think. cant wait to get my hands dirty . still awaiting for os but i will start with out it to see if parts are in working order

ivy bridge lets off more heat but its faster. so even if you cant overclock as high as sandy bridge its still faster. i would get ivy over sandy but that's just me.

the extreme4 being a little smaller isn't a good reason to not get it. there will be zero issues because of the size. it doesn't really make any sense to buy the extreme6 because its a bigger size and the last 3 standoffs can screw in. only get the extreme6 if there is a feature you need.

this is a re-branded seasonic psu. its modular and cheaper then the corsair.

parts are allready paid

yea i would like to have xfx but i didn't want it shipped and worry about the hassle of reshipping if something was wrong with it. if micro center had it i would of picked it up or if another store around my area had it as well. that would be my next choice if i have a prob with the psu i got now

for the extreme 6 i got it because it has plug-ins for floppy disc ................................
and 2 extra sata cables ..............lol

no it has upgraded heatsink, firewire ( good for the soundcard i want)

and 2 extra 3.0 usb connections. not needed for the time being

also no worry's bout pressing on the board to hard and having the mobo hit the case when plunging in stuff...prob will never happen but to be sure it still eliminates that from happening

also the 3770k is only 10% faster then the 2700k and i don't want any more added heat as it gets to be over 100 in my room in the summer

ivy bridges don't really generate more heat unless you overclock it and up the voltage. running at stock or a reasonable OC they are similar. if there is some feature you want on the extreme6 by all means get it. i was just saying don't not get the extreme4 because its a inch smaller.

Got done putting every thing together took an hour to put together, test, and wire management.

Took another hour to find out the codes my mobo was throwing.....and it was all dumb on my end

first code i got was a d7 - i put every thing together out side the case to make sure it was all working...i didn't plug in any hdd or dvd player just the psu also plugged in my old gpu.....plugged in hdd and dvd code went away...every thing was in working order

put every thing in case plugged all the wires in and made them look pretty....then i some other code forgot what was but looked it up on the net found out it needed keyboard ....weird didn't do that when it was outside of the case

code went away and replaced by a6 and a2.......no answers on line but found out on my own ....took out the gpu then used the onboard gpu...changed something on the bios to make it use the onboard gpu.......Weird thing was the monitor was still working with the onboard gpu before i changed it in bios

now every thing is fixed and ready for upgraded bios and then windows 7 on wed when it gets here

ps ...i was iffy on the psu but so far so good, no unwanted sounds ....all parts are in working order
