This is my first full system build in a long time (I did one like 20 years when Windows 3.0 was the norm and when my age was still in single digit numbers). I've done plenty of upgrading, but no full builds yet. I'm looking to build a cheap gaming PC in the $500-600 price range. I don't have an AMD/Intel preference, I just know AMD tends to be cheaper and their BE processors are fairly easy to OC and if anyone is going to suggest SLi or Crossfire, I prefer Crossfire. I think everything here is compatible, but if it isn't, it'd be great to hear if something isn't.

Here's what I'm looking at:

Case: $24.99

PSU: $64.99 - $30 MIR

MoBo: $79.99

CPU and RAM combo: $124.98 - $20 MIR

(I've read that this RAM overclocks to 1000MHz and 4-4-4-12 fairly easily)

HD: $41.99

GPU: $94.99 - $20 MIR

Thermal Compound: $6.99

OS: $95.99

Heatsink: $19.99

Pre-Rebate Total: $598.18
-$70.00 MIR
Total After Rebates:$528.18

Thanks for the help.

With overclocking, the E5200 beats the Athlon 64 X2 7750. Without overclocking, the Athlon 64 X2 7750 is faster. Better decide now if you will overclock or not. If you do overclock, get the E5200 and a good aftermarket cooler. If not, get the AMD. Either way, good choices for that budget.

Sapphire recommends a 450W or greater PSU for systems with a HD 4830. The Asus model doesn't say anyhing about the PSU on its Newegg page, but it's the same thing of course. The Earthwatts 380W can deliver 27A on the 12V rails combined, while the StealthXStream 600W can do 35A. I think the StealthXStream
is more appropriate here. Maybe combined with this case:

Rosewill Wind Ryder RZLS142A-P

If you want Crossfire with HD 4830, get a bigger PSU that has the 2 PCI-E connectors and the juice.

I was looking at the Kuma 7750 vs the E5200 because it seems like it's easier to overclock and it sounds like it runs a little cooler, but I don't know how true that is. I don't have a whole lot of experience with overclocking CPUs, so that was part of it. I understand that the Kuma can get around 3.2-3.4GHz stable with a decent cooler and that the E5200 does about 3.3-3.5GHz. That and the Kuma's FSB is higher and it has three levels of cache vs the 2 in the Wolfdale. So, on the sounds of it, the Kuma is faster. I was planning on overclocking on air with a decent cooler. I know that I can use AMD overdrive to OC the Kuma. Don't I have to OC the Intel in the BIOS?

Sorry if I seem so dense, it's been a while for me, haha.
