Hi. So this is my 1st time trying to build a pc, and I don't know much yet about the topic. But I want to take this chance and buy some of the parts on Black Friday, so I need help before I do order the parts. Will the build work? Any comments or advice?

I want this PC for gaming + general use + editing videos and art making.

The only 3 things I'm sure about are :

- CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor

- Graphics card: Asus - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6 GB Dual Video Card
OR ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 8GB ROG Strix Graphics Card (1835MHz) - if there were good deals on black friday only.

HDD - Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ( OR the black version)

I think of buying an SSD later on.

I used some useful websites to help me choose the other components.

this is the build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8QfHsZ

Approximate Purchase Date:
this black friday (some parts) and then next month the rest of them.

Budget Range: 1350$ (only for the PC, without the monitor and etc)

Are you buying a monitor: Yes (but not now, I'll be using my tv till I do)

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Location: Oman, but I'm ordering the parts from Amazon.

Overclocking: Yes mostly

SLI or Crossfire: don't know what's that - yet.

Your Monitor Resolution: haven't decided yet.

Additional Comments: I want it future proof as much as possible. I'm not really that interested in upgrading from time to time. Not before a couple of years.

Why Are You Upgrading: I have an old laptop that I can't play any games with decently.

Well you should've said from the beggining that you can only buy from amazon.
i haven't heard of any RX 580s that present your stated problems(I think you have something against AMD at this point :) since the card is much cheaper and better performing than the 1060).

I made a list only with amazon parts.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Core i5-8600K 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor ($245.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG - H5 Ultimate 76 CFM CPU Cooler ($75.98 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI - Z370 SLI PLUS ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($119.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($129.99 @ Amazon)...

Agreed you definitely will be glad you went with an ssd. The 250gb-500gb Samsung are great and a great price now.

Also to put in perspective how much the 8700k is costing you with all the extras and that expensive case. It's fine if you want it. But really a lot of cpu for most people. The 2600 is a great value middle range cpu. Just used as an example.

For 1350$ you can do much better.
Added a 500 GB SSD and replaced the 1060 with a 1070ti.
Depending on your workloads you can go with a cheaper CPU... also you should post what monitor are you using.
For reference here's what I'd go for that budget:

CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor ($358.89 @ OutletPC)

1. Yeah I agree, I was worried about the cpu heating so I wanted a better (best) airflow. What case would you suggest?
2. Haha, yeah I will buy one later but now that you said that, ok I'll get 1. Your suggestion?
3. I'm thinking about UHD resolution OR a 4K -only if I find a good monitor that's not too expensive.
4. ATM it's Sony Vegas, but I'm willing to learn Adobe Premier+after effects. My focus is not mainly on video editing, I have great art programs that I'm not enjoying much because of my current laptop's performance - like Blender and I want to try animation (I draw).

Yeah I guess I got over excited with the CPU. I just wanted a boost for both gaming and heavy programs use.
About the case, no not really I was thinking that the other choices had worse airflow that's all. I'd like to save some money no doubt.

AMD, I haven't tried that CPU ever before. (kind of worried haha)
Thank you very much, that was really useful. And the total price is shocking! I'm definitely spending more than I should.

Thank you very much. That's really helpful!
I'll go with a cheaper CPU. What do you suggest? (I hope it's an Intel) and will the same motherboard suit it?
I'll say I'm an average user of some heavy programs.

About the monitor it's QHD or 4k (only if I get a decent deal for the 4k).
Update: I'd like to get a 4k monitor even if later on. so I hope the build can suit the resolution.

SSD is very worth it for a os drive for the speed its also sold state so no moving parts so more reliable its amazing fast

see the read and write speeds its worth the money if you can afford it plus ssd has a warranty cover of about 5 years the wd blue has about 2 to 3 year cover :)

I would recommend having a ssd for the os and programs and a hdd for storage plus for larger game installs

My take with better gpu, which is a must for 4k gaming.

vapour, ChumP, Thank you very much. Very appreciated.

One question. Is the RTX a safe choice? I heard it has a lot of problems so I was trying to stay away from it.
If it's the best choice for a 4k resolution.. I'll stick with lower resolution. QHD or even less. No problem.
I don't want to lose the performance for the sake of the resolution.

I don't want to take more of your respectful times, so I'll make it as brief as possible.
I'll do my build once again, but I gtg to work now. I'll post it later when I'm back. Then you can evaluate it.
Thank you everyone again, your advice was really helpful! Glad I posted here before I buy anything.

I actually used your build, ChumP: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mLX24q
just changed the GPU ( to ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Dual-Fan OC ). I'll start small.

I have 2 questions..

1- Is the i5 going to handle the video editing programs and such ?

2- Is the PSU alright for this build or is it too much?

Once everything is ok, I'm ready to buy the parts. :)

Changed the config a bit since video editing is the main focus here... more cores will help you there.
The Ryzen 7 2700X will do much better in video editing tasks... also will be really close to the 9600k in gaming.
I've also changed the GPU to a RX 580 since it's cheaper and better performing than the 1060 you chose.
A 650W great quality PSU like the TX650M will do the job just fine.
Also the CPU cooler is optional... the included one will do it's job just fine if OCing is not the focus. The be quiet one will be obviously quieter than the stock one and will keep the CPU cooler(will also look much better).

Thank you, this is my 1st time using AMD CPU but I'll trust you on this (after all, I'm a noob).
That's more budget friendly build and does the job, I'm pleased.

Hmmm...
The problem is, when it comes to AMD, I just don't know. I haven't tried it ever before.
Now I'm a bit worried haha.

I'll do my build once again but with intel so I can be stress-free.

I know, but like I said. I haven't actually tried any AMD product before, so that's kind of out of my comfort zone.
And as it's my 1st build and that's intimidating enough, I'd like to feel safe with at least something I'm familiar with.
I appreciate your help but it's now physiological factors playing with my mind.

__________

Here's the build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Ztwkmq
The PSU(semi modular) is worth $59.99, so the total would be = $1036.88
Edit: Either that PSU or EVGA 650 GQ, 80+ Gold 650W, Semi Modular.

From the 1st build it's:
- Cheaper CPU
- Added decent SSD
- Budget-friendly case
- 8 Gb RAM

This provides better value.
Added the 9600k instead of the 8600k, 16 Gb of RAM and the RX 580 instead of the 1060(it's faster and almost 100$ cheaper).
Total price is similar and much better value for the money.
Also changed the cooler with a Cryorig H7... it will do really well too.

The problem with some of the parts is that they're only sold by OutletPC which is not very reliable.
I count on Amazon (I'm from Oman, I'd like to order from the most reliable sources in the US), so I might sacrifice the optimum value.

I read that radeon-rx-580 has a problem working with some ram, but it's good with the one you chose (and that part is only sold by OutletPC).

Questions:

1- Will the 1060 with 8 GB ram or 16 work well both in gaming and programs?

2- I was checking some of the games I'm excited to try out on steam, and saw one recommending the use of i7 CPU. And it's no the only one actually. So, if I use the i7-8700K or i7-7700K, is it ok with the gtx1060 and overall parts? Because if it works that's good enough. (+I'm more interested in i7 than i5. I have an old i5)

3- The 1060gtx is huge and needs a good amount of space inside the case, is that right? And if so, will that case handle it well?

For the CPU: I'm going for either i7 ( i7-8700K or i7-7700K) or i5 9600k.
GPU: GTX1060 is the best for my budget and selling sources.
RAM: 8 GB in the beginning then I might upgrade with another 8 (for 16 GB)
Storage: Samsung - 860 Evo 500 GB SSD + Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1 TB
Motherboard: MSI - Z370 TOMAHAWK ATX
CPU cooler: be quiet! - Dark Rock Pro 4 (or anything you suggest, I might just go with the most popular)

PSU: not sure, need some help with this.

The build:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cwcmJ8

If I can save a bit of money that's great. But overall, I just need a build that works in the 1st place, and can play modern video games decently (as I'm not being able to play the games I purchased on Steam due to my old laptop's specs and performance. So playing games with the build is a priority to me) + can handle my programs use (it's not heavy, but just to stay on the safe side I thought I'd get an i7).

The person who introduced me to PC building is a colleague, and he has an i5, gtx1050ti, 8 Gb Ram.. At first I was planning to get the same parts as him, but my pc using pattern is different. And since he's not a pro at pc building nor anyone I know, I really could use your help. If this build works, I'll be very grateful to you. (I'm too stressed out because of all of this haha! like work is not enough.. )

Haha. I didn't mind buying from other sources if I didn't find something on Amazon, till I read about OutletPC(after your suggested parts).
Ok, thank you. You didn't answer my questions but I guess the build's your only answer.

Thank you again.
