I building using these parts:

-AMD A10-5800K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor
-Gigabyte GA-F2A85XM-D3H Micro ATX FM2 Motherboard
-Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory
-Corsair CX 500W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply
-Cooler Master NSE-200-KKN1 MicroATX Mid Tower Case
-300GB Hard Drive

I opt for this set up because its the best I can get for about $300.
But anyway, how good will it run video games?

It really depends on the game. Newer mainstream games probably at medium with acceptable rates, anything more than a year or two old probably up into High. Upcoming games?...Probably not going to be pretty. You'll be able to play then i'd guess, but on lowish settings with lower frame rates.

(as said before, also depends on your resolution, which you didn't specify, i'm assuming 1920x1080, lower res=higher settings)
