What would be faster setting up and 1tb evo for everything or using a 128gb samsung pro as boot disk and storing everything on wd 1tb 7200rpm drive. Also i see alot of posts about installing windows in uefi, is that needed for these drives or is legacy mode good enough

Solution
Just to be clear Garbage Collection is not blocked, stopped, or restricted in any way by running in Ide/Compatibility mode. It is purely run within the drive itself.
Ide/Compatibility mode would prevent Trim from running which is passed over AHCI (and raid for intel boards) from the OS.

UEFI/EFi is a function of the motherboard and has nothing to do with the drive. Its the new Bios style.

UEFI has nothing to do with hard drive (or solid-state drive) capacity. UEFI is a replacement for the BIOS. I think that you mean GPT, which is required for drives above 2 TB, but can be used on smaller drives.

As for AHCI vs. Legacy mode, AHCI is preferred. There are certain features (native command queueing, garbage collection, etc) that are disabled when running in Legacy mode which would be beneficial to solid-state drives.

My mistake on the garbage collection thing.

No harm done. After I posted that, I thought something didn't seem right. At least someone more knowledgeable than me came along!

a RAID wont be as fast as an SSD, though you wont have to worry about filling it up as quickly. If you are using an amd chipset for raid it can be a bit tricky to do. when i did mine(2 500gb in striped raid) win7 setup wouldn't take the raid drivers during setup cause they weren't signed. So i had to do this whole workaround to get it to work.
