1tb hdd toshiba how to format for hp

my friend gave me her 1tb backup hdd, it wont even show on my hp mini laptop. how do i use this?

did you go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management, disk management? and dont see it there?

Could you find it in "Disk Management" or "Disk Manager"?
