1TB velociraptors discontinued?

Solution

What a true shame. I wish WD would have been willing to drop the price on them to about 160-180 range. They probably could have kept interest going. I think it's safe to say that the next Raptor will be a hybrid, or full on SSD, or gone for good lol.
WD actually revamped the series with some improvements about a year ago.

Can I ask why you're looking for a VelociRaptor drive?

I ask because there may be a better solution for your application. Before SSDs were mainstream in the consumer market, VelociRaptors were amazing. Nowadays its kind of a grey area. For OS/ImportantApplications/Games, an SSD is the way to go. If you need media/data storage, a standard 7200 RPM HDD is going to do that job quite well for much cheaper than a VelociRaptor.

Thanks for the reply. Reason i was looking at the velociraptors is for my new build, it is going to be primarily a FSX (flight sim) rig and was going with 2 HDDs. I have a WD 500gb black that i would put the OS,music, and other stuff on. While the 1TB was going to be just for FSX. I would love a SSD however just 500GB SSD costs around $400. And with the all the addons for aircraft/sceneries for FSX, ones FSX folder can easily swell up to 300-500GB+. Now as i understand HDDS do nothing for improving FPS in games, all they help with is loading? So now i am wondering if i really need a velociraptor? And i would also be ok with getting a 600GB or so HD, and if it ever came to it where capacity is limited, just get a new HD. If i where to go with say a 256GB SSD and i needed a bigger one, how hard/long would it be to transfer all my stuff from one SSD to another? And could you recommend a good 256-300gb SSD? thanks

Yup it's gone. links are disappearing everywhere. This isn't just the terabyte model. It's a full out discontinue from lack of demand. You can thank SSD enthusiasts for this. Now you're stuck with the crucial M500 1TB for $600.
