2.0 speakers with a 5.1 sound card

Would it make my speakers give of 5.1 surround sound or would it just be a waste of a sound card? I have absolutely no idea when it comes to things like this.

There is no advantage if you only have 2 speakers. No, you cannot get surround sound from 2 speakers.
