I changed my ram timing settings in mobo bios from 3-3-3 to 2-2-2. I've been using my Pc in this config for a week now & I can't notice a difference.....not when I'm using office apps & no diff noticed when I'm gaming. I have no idea what kind (or speed) of ram is in my PC other than it has 3 128 mb dimms. I have a ABIT BF6 mobo. The cpu's I've been using this week are PIII800 & Celeron 433 - no problems changing settings with both cpu's & no detectable diff in performance with either cpu. What's gives?

Changing memory latencies (CAS, RAS, CAS-to-RAS) from 3-3-3 to 2-2-2 only offer about 3-5% performance increase.

When using office apps there really is no performance increase, and in games you aren't going to notice the difference between 75fps and 100fps, or even anything over about 50fps. You should be able to see the difference in benchmarks though.
