Is there a way for me to keep my existing 2.4ghz router but plug it into something that can send a wifi signal at 5ghz but connect them using an ethernet cable.
Heres a diagram I made up quickly

Solution
It looks like what you want is called a AP. Any dual band router can be used as a AP by cabling and configuring it correctly. If you want the new device to send only 5g you would need to disable the 2.4g. Most devices have the ability to turn off the wireless radios but check the feature list before you buy to be sure.

Using a ethernet cable makes this simple, if you wanted to receive the signal on 2.4g and transmit on 5g that is not a ability that is common but there are devices that can do it.
