Hello, I'm looking for a WiFi repeater that takes a 2.4Ghz WiFi signal and sends out a 5Ghz signal.
Is that possible?
I've seen a lot of Dual Band WiFi repeaters of course, but what I don't understand is if a "common" adapter would work that way, or just, dumbly, repeats what it receives, without no understanding at all, and then no frequency change.

My router doesn't support 5Ghz WiFi but I need that because, on my new laptop, WiFi and bluetooth interferences are driving me crazy!
Plus, my router is not in the same room where I usually use the computer, so I'm a bit scared of buying another one just to discover that the 5Ghz range is too short.
By having a repeater in this room I'd like to avoid any risk.
However I don't know about 5Ghz WiFi range, maybe it's not that bad: the router is in the room close to the one where I work (never had any issue at all with 2.4Ghz).

Any idea? Any product suggestion?

There may be consumer grade 5GHz extenders that will do backhaul on 2.4GHz but I don't know of any and the manufactures don't make them easy to find. You can accomplish the same thing using two relativity inexpensive routers connected with an Ethernet cable. The 2.4GHz must be able to operate as a client bridge. The 5GHz set up as a normal access point with its own SSID and security. One advantage of this is that the devices can be placed apart, if the space allows for it, to get the 5GHz physically closer to the zone it serves.
