Hello, first of all I would like to state I love this website, has been a lot of help.My case is as follows I have a HP CMT 7900 computer. Motherboard LGA 775.

My first question is, what is the fastest CPU processor I can get for it.

Second, Does going from a 2.66ghz quad-core processor to a 3.00ghz processor really make much difference? I play video games.

Thank you for the answers if any.

You likely won't see a big difference. Not in FPS. OCing just generates more heat, uses more power and then sometimes improves performance

in a way that you will notice. Your socket, LGA 775 is ancient. So you won't find many worthwhile upgrade paths. So if you want one of the

newest CPUs, you need to upgrade your motherboard. Which CPU do you have now though?

You can download speccy from piriform.com to find out.

Thank you for replying. I have a Q8400 Intel Quad-Core 2.66Ghz. I am barely getting by in gaming. I can play most last generation games without a hitch. I know that for the new generation that just arrived a nice 3.5Ghz will do for the next 5 to 6 years.

I was looking at the highest my motherboard can do and it's a 3.0Ghz Quad-core Intel. Thus the reason asking if those .34ghz would make a difference, lol. I am a bit of a newb to know if it would make a difference lol.

I don't think so.

Even if something is fast, it does have to have some power too. Perhaps it's a bit similar to number of cores.

Many AMD CPUs have way more cores than, Intel ones, but this might not matter if Intels single core performance is higher.

I would really recommend that you upgrade. It's good for you in the longer term.

No problem.
