Question 2 6pin with seperate rails into a single 8 pin

Will I ruin the switching supply if I use a combiner for 2x 6pin seperate rails @18A to a single 8 pin?

Make and model of the PSU in question and the age of said unit? What are you trying to connect to? Board's supplemental power input or PCIe auxiliary input? In either case, please state the make and model of the board and/or the GPU.

If you want to connect a graphics card that needs an 8-pin auxiliary power connector to a PSU that lacks such 8-pin support, typically the answer is don't.

What are you trying to connect to what? What card? What board? What PSU and how old?

It's an older EVGA 1080 TI 8GB with a single 8 pin connector. I've gone through 2 power supplies in the last 3 years. It's a Z800 DPS-1050 (1250W with GPU12V1 @18A, GPU12V2 @18A on 6 pin connectors P10/P11) The 8 pin adapter appears to be merging the rails.

Given the supply rail amperage, I thought it may be a better solution to get a 3070 card and utilize each rail independently for isolation.

I assume you have the HP Z800. So do i and i just ordered an RTX3060 which has 8pin connector. Did it work finally? I bought a Dual 6pin female to an 8pin male adapter to connect the card but NVIDIA has controversial info on the subject.
