Question 2.9 GB free of 8 GB on 64 bit?

I am curious to why only 2.9 GB are free of my 8 GB. I have an older computer with Windows 10 64 bit on a MSI H61M-P23 (MS-7680). Any suggestions on how to fix?

I just went into msconfig/advanced/and set it to max and now I am showing 4.3 GB free of 8 GB @ 1.3 GHz.

Plus for some reason my I5 is running far below average.... :\

But why is it so low?

Check your CPU temps. I like using HWInfo64 because I can see a lot of what's going on with my hardware.

You have to make sure all your background tasks are closed. Just using Firefox with multiple tabs across 2-3 instances on multiple monitors, plus MS Word and maybe notepad and calculator and maybe another lite program, I can easily use up 8GB system RAM. A lot of the new games from last year also use more than 8GB. 16GB is becoming the minimum for gamers.

Windows manages ram to have sufficient free for new uses.
It leaves in ram what it thinks might be reused in the future.

If you were truly short of ram, it would show up in the hard fault page rate.
