I had bought my system in 2010 and it was working fine all this time until 2 months ago when my SMPS started giving issues. I opened the cabinet and realized that intermittently the red LED which is besides the CPU used to light up. When I checked my motherboard manual that LED indicates incorrect voltage on the board. Ultimately my SMPS started malfunctioning and stopped working. I managed to get the SMPS repaired and the computer was working fine however the red LED would still light up. I didnt want to take any chances with the existing SMPS so I then bought the Corsair CX750 watts SMPS to replace it, however ever since I have connected this new SMPS, the red LED no longer lights up but on POST the internal speaker beeps twice then a pause and again beeps twice after which there is no sound however all the fans and hard disks continue to keep spinning but there is no display on the screen. Here are the troubleshooting steps I have performed so far but nothing seems to stop the 2 beepa issue:-

1) Disconnected all the components and removed the motherboard from the cabinet and tried booting it outside the cabinet with the bare minimal (1 RAM, CPU GPU and PSU). All other troubleshooting steps below are done with the bare minimals

2) Cleant all the components including the CPU fan and heatsink, applied new thermal paste as well

3) GPU fan was also opened and cleaned thoroughly, thermal paste applied

4) Tried swapping the RAM in alternate memory slots

5) Toggled the GPU to secondary PCI-E slot

6) Reset the CMOS by extraction or battery

After performing all thsee troubleshooting steps it still gives me two beeps pause two beeps.

Here is my configuration

Intel DX58SO motherboard
Intel Core i7 930 CPU (no OC)
4 GB Kingston DDR5 RAM
1 GB ATI RadeonHD 5770 GPU
1 Seagate 500GB HDD
1 WD Cavier 2 TB HDD
Corsair CX750 PSU

Please help!!!

Intel® Desktop Board DX58SO is the board I have and to answer YOGI, I don't have a spare graphic card to borrow. But after doing some googling over the internet I read that 2 beeps represents a 'Parity Circuit Failure'. I don't understand how that could have suddenly happened.

I seen that but what I linked above was the beep code for your board according to intel checked twice cause I was wondering or thought it would be listed as one of the legacy and the top list kept coming up

but with the means of back up parts or computer to test with its all guess work of a 100 things that could be

now this is not a well known thing with newer memory sticks [any brand ] and older chipsets as yours

example

I had posted that here at toms on a thread like yours and from there memory selector thing shows no matches

heres kinda what I was getting at with them chipsets and newer memory

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer our assistance. It is possible that the HyperX 4GB memory modules are Single Rank as the latest builds of that part number are Single Rank. Up until recently 4GB modules were standard Dual Rank. Basically, the issue that can occur is that the memory module uses high capacity individual memory chips (DRAM) that the motherboard is not equipped to recognize. Usually, if a motherboard is able to recognized standard 8GB modules it should not have an issue recognizing Single Rank 4GB modules. A "1R" may be printed on the label which would indicate it as single rank. Otherwise, we can confirm this based on a reference number printed on the memory label that we can look up in our system. Other common issue with the DDR2/DDR3 combo motherboards that can be overlooked is that it only supports DDR2 OR DDR3 memory. This means you cannot have both DDR2 AND DDR3 memory installed at the same time, it is an either/or option. We do not currently support your PFG41C-M LX motherboard as we no longer manufacture memory that would be compatible with that motherboard. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

or as she says here as well

Hi Adarsh,
Our HyperX Fury memory is not compatible with the G41 Intel Chipset; it is compatible with Intel 6 series and later DDR3 chipsets. We no longer manufacture DDR3 memory that is compatible to G41 chipset.

You have a point although I haven't changed the RAM for more than a year now. I've been using the same one for about a year without any hassles. Besides I have also tried alternate and different RAMs including an older 2 GB DDR3 RAM which I had purchased back in 2010 and it is still issue.

I'm suspecting that it could he the motherboard or the GPU. I am strongly convinced that it is not a RAM problem as I had performed an isolation test with various RAM chips on different RAM slots and the problem still persists. I'll post an update once I have tested it with a different GPU.

as long as you know the ram your using don't fall under whats said above from Kingston ? times have changed and that old stuff been near forgot about

just like fropm here x58 chipsets don't even come uany more

http://www.gskill.com/en/configurator?manu=57&chip=1307&model=1413

and at Kingston
just a few limited value sticks [and that's for the dx58so''2''

bottom line is your not the only one upgrading ram on these type old chipsets and find it may not work out

also funny when you look all around at threads how Kingston comes up the most on this ??

look how many times just from here

anyway that's my thinking and what I see on this and those older chipsets today

good luck

I wasn't able to grab an extra GPU to test this however I started troubleshooting right from the basics where I only connected the power supply to the Motherboard (my mobo doesn't have an on board GPU). So I continued to boot up without the CPU, GPU and without RAM. Only mobo and psu. Here is what I found out:-

1) Without CPU, RAM, GPU (outside cabinet):- The moment I powered it on it shut down the system within 2 seconds and no beep codes.

2) I then connected the CPU and heatsink/fan and there there were 3 beeps pause 3 beeps non-stop which is a clear indication of a memory failure which is okay as there was no RAM connected.

3) I connected the 2GB RAM and attempted to boot up without the GPU (no on board GPU) and this time it was 2 beeps pause 2 beeps.

4) I connected the GPU this time and again 2 beeps pause 2 beeps.

Basically looks like a bad Mobo or GPU. Hopefully I can find someone who can lend me a GPU for sometime to isolate the problem.

maybe ?? don't forget that boards no spring chicken and its time may of come ??

all you can do is test it out best you can .. yopu will find the issue and get it going or you just shrug your shoulders and move on to something new and more today [aint no guarantees with that as well - lol]

good luck

I finally got a chance to try another GPU and when I did it worked fine. So there it is the GPU is not working although the fan and LEDs on the card fire up.

I am looking to upgrade to a better GPU obviously keeping the same system and I was considering getting the Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 Strix DirectCU II Graphics Card (4GB) which is PCI-E 3.0 supported whereas my mobo is 2.0. I hope this wouldn't be a problem.

just remember to do you home work with all that some guys find the newer cards like the gtx 900's may have compatibility issues with older chipset board and there old bios's ??

some may work fine some kinda works and some black screen ??

don't hurt to google things around to see whats been reported on your upgrade parts before you buy , may save you from holding the bag in some way

good luck

Congrats, Bosco! I'm glad that you were able to confirm that the gfx card is the problem!
