Hello!

So I'm trying to fix a computer that died not too long ago. It's a desktop PC with a Lenovo N1966 MB, and 4 gb's of ram. I have no clue what processor it got running as I've never actually been able to start it.

So when I start it up the display is all black and I get two short beeps.
According to this it's either a motherboard issue or RAM issue.

I reset the BIOS settings by taking out the battery + swapping the jumpers, and tried running it with a new memstick. I didn't get any beeps then, but it still had a black display, so it kept running until I turned it off (without anything happening).

The memstick that came with the pc is a "Lenovo 4GB 2Rx8 PC3 - 12800U" and the one I tried swapping it with is a "Crucial 2GB 1RX8 - 256MX64 DDR3PC3 - 8500U". I'll let you know right now that I have no clue what all theese numbers mean, but the second one is slower right? EDIT: Do you think this is the reason the second memstick won't work?

I've put the computer aside for now and hope anyone here can help me figure out whats wrong with it.

Solution
The second stick is running at a lot lower speed which would make your entire system run slower for anything that relied on ram. Try pushing down on the new stick to make sure it is seated fully and try again. If that fails to make it boot then you might be able to check if the stick is compatible with your system at crucial but checking with Lenovo is your best option.

Solution
It's a Lenovo ThickCentre Edge72. It's running Windows 8 and I'm fairly certain this is the right one.

I have tried running it w/o any ram, it gives me 2 short and 1 long beep and no LCD display.
The cable + monitor is confirmed working.

So do you think I should get a faster RAM to test it with?

You're right, it's 3 short, 1 long actually. I didn't pay too close attention I guess.

So I replaced the 4gb 2rx8 with a brand new 4gb 1rx8 and well, it works. It's stupid how simple it turns out sometimes. Thanks for all your help, though in the end I guess I went along with my own idea.

So, do I still choose a solution?

Glad to hear you are back up and running. This may help encourage others with similar problems check their ram. Good luck and enjoy your now working PC. :)
