2 Computers with steam, 1 hdd

I'm planning to build another pc at another location, and my idea was to just buy 1 2TB hard drive. and install games on that. And just take this hard drive with me to which pc I'm using. but Should steam be installed on the ssd's of these pc's. Or should I install it on the hdd itself. Will this even work at all

Steam games are tied to the account and not the computer so it should work. Personally I would have Steam installed on each computer so that it can create any directories/files it needs to in the system folder.
