I have a PC that i recently built about a year ago and I was kinda bummed to find out that just after I built it, the Nvidia Geforce GTX1080 and GTX1070 were released. I was wondering if I bought a new GTX1080 and put it in my PC wit my GTX980, would it be OK if they weren't in SLI and powering different monitors? I want to have the GTX1080 powering the 4K monitor for gaming and watching videos, while using the GTX980 to power two 1080p monitors to use for producticity and things like discord.
Thanks

a single 1080 could easily do multi monitor, as long as you only game on a single display

although no single card is that great for 4k (titan-x pascal comes close) , unless all you want to play is something like csgo

You will have problems with different Nvidia cards installed together.
The GTX 1080 will have no trouble running the additional monitors anyway, up to 4 monitors are supported on any combination of the available connectors.
The only thing you'll have issues with is any VGA connected monitor, which will need an active HDMI or DisplayPort to VGA adapter.

If people had issues with different nvidia cards together then physx wouldn't be possible. Even mixing amd, intel and nvidia have had no issues for me.

Gpu acceleration is still on the main gpu so this is pointless anyways. Unless the software lets you choose gpu which is hardly any.

Other GPUs like AMD or Intel make it easier.
Mixing multiple GPUs of the same brand, with the same driver, cause problems.
Using a second card for physx is completely different to using it for additional monitor outputs, and completely pointless in most situations anyway.

I never had issues and still suggest it many times for stock traders who also game and never had issues. I don't see people with issues on here either. Of course you see issues for everything but its' too rare to say that it is in issue with multiple gpus rather than a single instance.
