Hello,

I'm trying to build a budget cad PC, I read an article on grabcad i think a while ago according to which I could go for a Quadro k620 combined with a good gaming gpu like the gtx 960 and get a decent performance. Is that possible and what mainboard would be recommended?

Thank you

The article only mentions getting both for gaming+cad. Do you have the 970 now and have stability issues in cad? What do you use now? Are you also going to game? Workstation cards can game. It's still only going to use 1 gpu. But yes you can have quadro and geforce in the same pc without issues. You can even have quadro+geforce+firepro+radeon+intel and should have no issues. I hope you have multiple monitors.
If you ask me, 2GB of video memory is not enough for CAD. I would recommend at least a Quadro K1200.

Compare here.

As for the motherboard, any board with two PCIe x16 slots will do.

Please note that you will have to move screens between the two GPUs.

If you want to game, plug the screen into the 960. If you want to do CAD, plug the screen into the Quadro.

Hello k1114,

This is the post i was reffering too,
http://blog.grabcad.com/blog/2015/07/28/kick-ass-cad-workstation-build/
I'm new to cad and building a pc, and the thing is I don't have the budget to get a quadro in the first place but after reading through a lot of forums I'm very confused. I was hoping adding a quadro with a 970 would make larger assemblies more stable or so I read in one of the threads here, But could you please cconfirm they can co exist without driver conflicts because thats how i decide my mainboard and psu. Trying to save all I can to be honest.

Thanks
