hi, I have 2 lan cards installed on my computer.

and I have two ADSL routers with 2 separate internet connections.

what i want to do is,
Lan1: I just want internet access
Lan2: connect to local network only. i do not want internet connection from this.

can anyone help me on how to do this please?

Solution
What make and model are the ADSL routers?

Do you want LAN 1 and LAN 2 to be completely separate and not able to communicate or otherwise share resources?

How many devices on each network?

And you are going to give up one of the internet connections?

Hi Ralston,

these are just basic ADSL+2 routers provided from the ISP. Brand is Prolink. Yes i do not want internect connection from Lan 2. Its for local network access only. And i want Lan1 to be dedicated to Internet only. (no other users on that router. its just for me)

hi kanewolf,

you mean i can use a completely different ip range for Lan1 which i am going to use for internet.

Lan 1: can i assign IP range like 10.0.0.1 for this router, and leave the NIC to obtain IP automatically. and it will be used for internet access. and it is not visible to the users on lan2 ip range. is it?

Lan 2: Local area network uses IP range of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254. So I can assign an unique IP to this NIC and leave the default gateway blank. that way internet access will not work and still i can access the local network.

That should be correct. LAN2 would be able to access any 192.168.1.x host but nothing else.

Solution
Go with Kanewolf......

One question:

Are you are renting both ADSL Routers? If so then for LAN2, as I understand it, you could just use a hub or any simple, inexpensive router instead. No need to pay ISP rent for the second ADSL router.... If you own one or both routers then the question is moot. Just continue using the routers.

Thanks. I will try it out.

I own both routers. Other users on lan2 should be able to use internet too, and i want to be able to sharing files with them, at the same time i need a faster internet connection for downloading and uploading large JPG files. That's why i have two internet connections. Lan1 is private for me.

Thanks for your replies.

i can check allocated IP's using arp -a command in cmd. i will assign an ip which not used.
