Ive got a server with 2 Ethernet cards and a few fixed ips that i have obtained from my ISP is there a way that the one system can have both cards using different external ips?

Solution
You may still get the stuttering. If it was a bandwidth issue on the port then you would likely be exceeding your internet connection.

Although different in concept using a single ip with 2 different port numbers which map to 2 different programs/processes in the machines is not really that different than having 2 IP addresses map to 2 virtual machines. The virtual machines are still sharing the resources of the real and are in a way no really no different except you are calling them virutal machines rather than programs.

Now if the software in the machine that does the virtualization can somehow share the resources of the machine better than tuning values for processes then maybe it could help

This is more a question for the guys...
You likely could if your really worked at it. You would likely also need special configuration on your router and likely most simple consumer routers do not have the features you need to accomplish this.

Still you would have to determine why you really wanted to do this. You would have to have a special need like some virtual server or something.

In general there really is no advantage to using both ports or having 2 external addresses.

the server is being used for hosting game servers that need the differnt ips for the different servers .ive got them all running off of the one card, while the ping is amazing there is stuttering from the server.
thanks for the advice!!

This is more a question for the guys in one of the server forums. Now the software that does virtualization can also allow you to use 2 different ip by in effect assigning the physical nics to different virtual machines and then you can assign ip to them as if they really were different machines.

Still this again is a very specialized requirement if you were planning to run virtual machines.
