2 External Monitors to Laptop

I have a HP Laptop with 1 HDMI port and a USB 3 Port to which I have connected a HDMI converter. I have connected them to external monitors but only the first screen will work. I am happy just to use the two monitors and not the laptop if need be. Any Ideas?

I have a HP Envy Laptop and want to connect two external monitors, using HDMI. I have connected one screen using the one HDMI port and the other using a USB 3 to HDMI converter. I have extended the display but the second screen will not power up. I would prefer to just use the screens and an external keyboard and leave the laptop as a station. Any ideas?
