am thinking of getting a new 2 gig (DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) ) rather than the 3 gig that i have DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) , would the new ones perform better and faster ? and will my motherboard handle it ( k9n ultra Msi 570 chipset)

I would just stay with the 667Mhz ram. Beyond this speed, you don't notice much increase in performance. Also, your motherboard doesn't officially support DDR2 1066Mhz memory.

yeah the money can go elsewhere i posted a review ealier on ddr2 vs ddr3, just type in both into the search bar. it gives a comparison of ddr2 667 to ddr3

there is hardly a diffference so the same can be assumed for ddr2 1066
