2 GTX 950's versus 1 970 for VR

Would it be better for Virtual reality headsets such as the Oculus Rift if I used 2 Sli-ed EVGA GTX 950's or 1 EVGA GTX 970?

the 950s wont cut it. Nvidia's multi-gpu SLI is actually hindering performance.
