So as the title says I have two hdmi monitors and only 1 port in my pc. I went out and spent something like 20 bucks on a splitter only for it to mirror the other screen. I want both screens to be independant so I can game on one monitor while I have my movies/tv on the other. What kind of product should I be looking to buy?

Solution
What is the make/model of your PC?
Laptop or desktop?

Laptops will not have independent output capability.
You possibly can add a USB adapter to do the job.

If you have a discrete graphics card, what is the make/model?
If you do not have a discrete graphics card, you need one for any sort of gaming.
All discrete graphics cards will have multiple outputs and two hdmi ports are common.

Considering you have a pc
Make sure your HDMI cable is plugged into t GPU
If you want multi monitors and only have one HDMI port either get hdmi-dvi adapter or a hdmi-vga adapter seeing if your GPU has any of those ports
Also make sure your motherboard and GPU has multi monitor capabilities
What GPU do you have?
If you have a laptop and want to run multi monitors I use a VGA to USB 3.0 adaptor (i thimk they are about £50 when i bought my one) and buy VGA to HDMI adapter if it doesn't come with it
