Hello All,

I am new to the group but find all the wealth of knowledge on here to be absolutely DamFanTastic.
Ok, need to get that out of the way so here is my questions:

I have two older laptops:
The first is:
HP Compaq Presario A900
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2330 @ 1.60GHz 1.60GHz
Currently has 3 GB of RAM
64-bit Operating System x64-based processor
Using Windows 10 which was upgraded from Windows 7

The second is
HP EliteBook 8540p
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 560 @ 2.67GHz 2.67GHz
Currently has 6 GB of RAM (Upgraded from 3 GB previously)(I think)
64-bit Operating System , x64-based processor
Using Windows 10 which was upgraded from Windows 7

So both laptops are currently being used for a couple of different things:
Streaming movies from programs such as KODI and other services.
Graphic Arts both using Photoshop for JPEG output and Corel Draw to output LARGE vector files.
Dabbling occasionally in software creating music and stop film animation

I know first thing that should be recommended is that I upgrade to stronger systems but I am a man on a tough budget and right now need to try my hardest to make these work for my purposes listed about and possible upgrading eventually.

So can both laptops be upgraded to 8 GB of RAM?
Is there any other hardware changes I should make?
Surprisingly enough both systems stand up pretty good. I do notice when streaming big HD movies that I get some buffering but often wonder if that is my connection as well.

I have done several searches but am not really finding anything that is not at least 5 to 6 years old. Just looking to see with current operating system if this any or all of the above is workable.
Please advise and thanks in advance. I look forward to spending some time here and have already made several bookmarks for future reference.

For the Presario A900, it is not possible to upgrade the RAM to 8 GB due to limitations of the chipset and BIOS.

The EliteBook 8540p can be upgraded to 8 GB! But strongly suggest getting a 2 x 4 GB dual channel kit to ensure inter-module compatibility.
Trying to upgrade using individual modules not from the same dual channel kit may lead to inter-module incompatibility. In this case in would require trying several individual modules until an inter-module compatible combination is found. This procedure could take some time and might cost more in the end!

Here is a 2 x 4 GB dual channel kit to consider -
